Objectives: Recently, the relationship between ABO blood group antigens and certain types of human cancers, especially the risk of developing pancreatic and gastric cancer, increases interest in research. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the A, B, O and Rh blood groups and breast cancer in 209 patients who were operated for breast cancer in our hospital.

Materials and Methods: The records of 209 patients who were operated for breast cancer between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2012 were analyzed retrospectively. The age of the patients, ABO and Rh blood group, type of operation and clinical data were obtained from hospital information system archive records. Histopathologically, tumor size, tumor type, tumor grade, presence of lymph node metastasis, estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), HER2 status were recorded.

Results: The mean age of the patients was 57.22 years. In Rh (+) patients, invasive carcinomas and lymph node metastasis were higher than Rh (-) patients (Respectively p = 0.008, p = 0.043). Estrogen receptor positivity was significantly higher in A blood group compared to other blood groups (p = 0.049).

Conclusion: Although breast cancer is more common in people with A blood group, ER positivity is higher in A blood group compared to other groups. In the blood group O, ER positivity is low. Invasive breast cancer and lymph node metastasis are more common in Rh (+) patients
